WHO WE ARE
We are SOLID, a multidisciplinary team of students from Eindhoven University of Technology, developing a sustainable energy storage system with iron powder as circular energy carrier.
We burn iron powder, and use the generated high temperature heat as energy. This combustion is free of CO2 emissions - the only leftover of the reaction is the iron oxide, known as rust. By making use of sustainable techniques, like green hydrogen, the iron oxides can be turnt back into iron powder again.
Iron powder can hence be used as a CO2-free and circular fuel.

In this timeline, we are mapping the technical milestones. The first one is all about the dispersion system, the module that is now finished and ready to be tested. This year’s system will mix iron powder with air, burn the iron powder, use the heat of the flame for steam production, and catch the rust.
